This pocket-sized Portable Gas Detector emits an audible alarm and activates a three-stage LED indicator when one of four gases are detected at levels greater than 5% Lower Explosive Limit (LEL). The Portable Gas Detector will detect potential gas leaks in pipes, fittings, valves, gas storage tanks, propane barbecue grills, home appliances, and hot water heaters.
The Portable Gas Detector highlights our ability to design, engineer, manufacture and brand simple consumer electronics. Marche, along with a business partner from a previous project, saw a void in the market for gas detection back in 2004 and began researching what it would take to bring a detector to the U.S. market.
Our research revealed the project to be completely feasible. Our office in ShenZhen China quickly sourced manufacturers who were making electronic boards for detecting gas at a reasonable price. With the electronics already developed, our focus then turned to designing the housing and brand image of the device.
The product was designed with reliability, look, feel, and price at the forefront of every decision. Our designers built a number of physical prototypes which were evaluated by our engineers, stakeholders and prospective users. The result is product that is extremely simple to use. The product is also reliable at pin-pointing leeks. An LED light means it’s also a flashlight, making it perfect for working in poorly lit situations.
